Meet David Adams
Leadership Coach, Facilitator, and Outdoor Enthusiast
What inspired you to pursue leadership development?
I spent over 25 years in organizational and corporate roles, and while I loved many aspects of my work, I realized my true passion was helping people grow. That "aha" moment led me to become the VP of Learning and Development for a global Fortune 500 business services organization, where I could focus entirely on empowering others. There’s nothing better than seeing people unlock their potential and thrive.
What’s your superpower as a coach?
I have a knack for combining heart, head, and hands in my approach—engaging emotions, intellect, and action. This blend leads to real, sustainable change. I also love creating repeatable programs that work. One of my proudest achievements started as a post-it note over lunch and became a flagship leadership development program for a national organization. It’s still thriving today!
What do you bring to the table?
Education: A BA in Psychology (with an emphasis in Industrial/Organizational Psych) from Pepperdine University.
Certifications: I’m a Certified Leadership Engagement and Impact Coach through The Academies and a graduate of programs like the Center for Creative Leadership and Fierce Conversations.
Facilitation: I’ve taught leadership programs at the University of Washington and earned credentials in DISC, DDI, and more.
What are you currently learning?
I’m always consuming new ideas to keep my work fresh. My favorite influences include Stephen Covey, Carol Dweck, Angela Duckworth, Patrick Lencioni, and Simon Sinek. I’m currently exploring creative thinking and growth mindset strategies to enhance how I help clients tackle challenges.
What motivates you as a coach?
I love helping people discover their intrinsic motivators and unlock hidden talents. A growth mindset is a big part of my work. I encourage clients to lean into areas that feel a little scary at first. Seeing someone develop the confidence to overcome challenges is endlessly rewarding.
What’s life like outside of work?
When I’m not coaching, you’ll probably find me in the great outdoors. Hiking, backpacking, and climbing are my happy places—I've summited Mount Rainier four times! I’m also passionate about music. My family and I even have a YouTube channel where we share our creations. And my wife and three daughters? They’re my ultimate inspiration—creative, fierce, and full of perspectives that challenge me daily.
What’s your favorite measure of success?
For me, success isn’t just about results in the moment—it’s about longevity. When the people I’ve coached build storied careers or the programs I’ve developed outlast my involvement, I know I’ve done my job.
Fun Fact:
I’ve been told my coaching style is like a blend of adventure guide and philosopher—ready to help you climb your metaphorical (or literal) mountain with wisdom and a practical map.
